Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)
This visa allows skilled workers to immigrate to Australia with a permanent residence visa. This visa is points-tested and individuals who wish to apply must submit their expression of interest and be invited by the skill select.
Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
This visa allows skilled workers to immigrate to Australia with a permanent residence visa. This visa is points-tested and individuals who wish to apply must be nominated by a state or territory government agency. Individuals must also submit their expression of interest and be invited by the skill select.
Skilled Regional Sponsored Visa (Subclass 489)
This visa is a provisional work visa. It allows skilled workers whom have the skills and qualifications required to meet the needs of Australia’s skill shortage, but is unable to meet the pass mark for a skilled independent visa. This visa is points-tested and individuals must be nominated by a relative living in a specified regional area of Australia or be nominated by a state or territory government agency. Applicants whom wish to apply for this visa must be prepared to live for at least twelve months in a specified regional area of Australia.
457 (Temporary Business) Visa
This visa is a temporary work visa. It allows workers to work in Australia for up to four years and bring eligible family members who have unrestricted work and study rights in Australia. Holders of a 457 visa also have no limit on the number of times they travel in and out of Australia. Individuals who wish to apply for this visa must first be sponsored by an approved Standard Business Sponsor and secondly nominated in an occupation from the Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List. They must also meet the minimum level of skill and English requirements in addition to character and health checks. If granted, visa holders are restricted to working for their sponsor and may not work for any other organisation unless they change organisations and their new employer is an approved 457 Sponsor. Please note that a holder of a 457 visa may be eligible to apply for a permanent resident visa after two years of employment in Australia if particular criteria are satisfied (Employer Nomination Scheme).
Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186)
This scheme allows skilled workers to immigrate to Australia with a permanent residence visa. Individuals must be nominated by an approved Australian employer. This visa has three streams
- 1.The temporary residence transition stream – 457 visa holders who have worked for two years in Australia can be nominated by their existing nominating employer who wishes to offer them a permanent position
- 2.The direct entry stream – Workers whom have not worked on a 457 visa with their nominating employer for two years but who are formally qualified and have worked for at least three years at a skilled level in their occupation and their occupation is listed on the Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List.
- 3.The agreement stream – workers sponsored by an Approved Australian employer through a labour agreement.
Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417)
This visa is a temporary work visa. It allows you to work up to twelve months in Australia doing any kind of work. This visa is for individuals aged between 18-30 years of age, who are interested in working whilst on holiday in Australia. If your main purpose in travelling to Australia is to participate in the work force, another working visa should be considered as you may only work with the same employer for a maximum period of six months. Individuals can apply for this visa if you hold a passport from one of the countries participating in the Working Holiday Maker Programme in Australia. currently for this subclass the countries listed are: Belgium, Canada, Republic of Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.
